Protecting the Santa Margarita River and Steelhead trout

TEMECULA – The guest speaker for the Sierra Santa Margarita April 13 meeting will be Dr. Sandra Jacobson. She will talk about local waters, the Santa Margarita River and steelhead trout starting at 6 p.m. at the Temecula Library, 30600 Pauba Rd.

Jacobson is the South Coast Steelhead Coalition coordinator. She works with CalTrout and coalition participants in the San Diego region to recover endangered steelhead and restore their habitat in Southern California.

Jacobson has a PhD in genetics from the University of Colorado. She has worked in molecular biology, strategic planning and project management in academics and industrial R&D. Most recently she worked in the areas of renewable fuels and environmental biology. Her concentration is toward science-based conservation.

Before joining CalTrout, she was project manager for collaborative Trout Unlimited – San Diego chapter projects. The project is a multi-year water quality study in San Luis Rey River and a regional trout population genetics study that identified native trout populations of steelhead lineage in Southern California.

She will cover recent progress in coalition-based steelhead recovery efforts.
