Fallbrook Soroptimists seek applicants for awards

Women’s Opportunity Award

The Women’s Opportunity Award program, Fallbrook Soroptimists major service project, aids women seeking to improve their economic status by gaining additional skills, training and education.

Women who serve as the primary financial support to their family (including children, spouse, siblings and/or parents), attend or have been accepted to a vocational/skills training program, or an undergraduate degree program, and have financial need may apply for the Women’s Opportunity Award.

The award recipient will receive $575 and advance to the regional level, where one recipient will receive $5,000. The program culminates with three finalists receiving $10,000 awards each.

Violet Richardson Award

Fallbrook Soroptimists are also seeking nominees for their annual Violet Richardson Award from young women between the ages of 14 and 17 who volunteer in their communities or schools. The award recognizes young women who make the world a better place through their volunteer efforts. A cash grant of $250 will be awarded, in honor of the winner, to their volunteer organization.

Those wishing to apply for either award must do so by December 15, 2007. Applications can be obtained at Fallbrook People to People, Fallbrook Chamber of Commerce and North County Times. Call Gayle Marrocco at (760) 728-7223 or Florie Meyer at (760) 731-3364 for more information.
