Communication improvements

Fallbrook High School continues to strive to meet the needs of all students. In doing so, I am pleased to announce some changes to our current community and student communication processes. As you may know, the FUHSD official Web site is http://www.fuhsd.net. When you link to this district site, you can click on “schools,” where you will then find your way to the official Fallbrook Union High School Web site, http://www.fallbrookhs.net. While currently under construction as we update information, one of the newest features on the site is the official school calendar. The calendar showcases events and activities specific to Fallbrook High School. It is being updated by school receptionist Jan Levi. The Web site has information on each specific school department or area. We are still working with new ASB director, Mr. Josh Way, to update the official ASB Web site. Thank you to everyone for your patience as we work through this process. It is our hope that you will find this calendar and our Web site helpful and useful.

Along these same lines, it is always a challenge to make sure that timely and accurate communication goes home to all 3,000 students. FUHS has recently implemented a new parent/home dialing system for increased home communication. The system has the capability to call all 3,000 homes in nearly 15 minutes. We hope to use this system to help streamline the communication process. I appreciate that you take the time to listen to these important communication messages.

In addition to technology phone communication, we are beginning to see an increase in the number of teachers, parents, and students who use our Ed Line electronic grading system. We hope to increase the number of teachers using this system, thus increasing the communication to all of our students and parents regarding grades and academic concerns. Through these technology programs, we hope to continue to improve the communication process for everyone.

FUHS students are now into the second semester of the 2005 school year. Your student may have spoken to you about changes to his or her schedule. Schedule changes may occur for many reasons. First, we have many students who participate in semester-long sports programs and when the sport ends, it is time to change the schedule. Second, we have experienced some staff changes this semester, which have affected the master schedule and resulted in some student schedule changes. Third, we are leveling out some classes to create for a more balanced learning environment. Finally, we have initiated some changes to program requirements or remediation options, which have also led to increased schedule changes. I want to thank everyone for their cooperation during this transition period. Please contact your student’s counselor if you need to schedule an appointment for a specific concern.

Finally, I want to ask for parent and community assistance when coming to visit someone at the FUHS campus. Please remember to stop by the front office and sign in as a visitor. You will then be provided with a temporary parking pass and a visitor’s sticker. It is important with so many students that we work cooperatively in assuring we have the safest possible learning environment. Also, if you plan to take your student off-campus for any reason, please remember to stop by the attendance window and sign the student out prior to leaving or make arrangements beforehand for an off-campus pass. Your assistance with this attendance procedure is greatly appreciated. Thank you again for your support.
