Eagle Scout candidate plans airpark beautification project

An Eagle Scout candidate is planning to create aesthetic improvements to Fallbrook Community Airpark for his community project.

Kyle Rabiyan will address the Fallbrook Airpark Advisory Committee at an upcoming meeting and final arrangements are being made with county authorities. If the final approvals are provided, Rabiyan and other volunteers will likely perform the work during his spring break in April.

“The plan is for Kyle’s volunteers, under his direction, to install trees and shrubs and an irrigation system, and we’ll be putting in wrought iron entry gates and we’ll be dressing up the entire entryway to the Fallbrook Airpark and plan to install some new signage,” said Peter Drinkwater, the Director of County Airports. “The scout portion of the work is the landscape. The county’s portion is the installation of the fence itself.”

Rabiyan, who is also working on his pilot’s license, lives in Carlsbad and is actually closer to McClellan-Palomar Airport. He had hoped to provide a community service project at that facility.

“We could not accommodate him there due to the amount of construction, which is why Fallbrook Airpark became the location of choice,” Drinkwater explained. “The Fallbrook airpark was the most natural opportunity that fit his schedule and timeline.”

The scouts will also paint the sliding gate currently at the airpark and perform other landscape work. “They’re very enthusiastic. Kyle’s a very professional young man,” Drinkwater said.

Rabiyan submitted his drawings and specifications to County Airports. “He’s doing a very professional job,” Drinkwater noted.

The Eagle Scout community service project requirement includes securing other volunteers for the work. The Eagle Scout candidate is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and controlling the work. “To date he’s done a very responsible and admirable job,” Drinkwater remarked.

The Eagle Scout candidate is also responsible for obtaining necessary approvals. In addition to obtaining the support of County Airports, the planned project was also reviewed and approved by the Fallbrook Community Planning Group. “Fallbrook has accepted his plan,” Drinkwater noted.

Drinkwater looks forward to the actual work. “We welcome this kind of activity as a benefit to the community,” he said.
