Fallbrook students receive Zella M. Smith scholarships

Seven Fallbrook residents and graduates received college scholarships from the Zella M. Smith Scholarship Trust. In total, $13,500 was awarded for scholarships in 2004 to enrolled college students through the Fallbrook Branch of the American Association of University Women.

The seven recipients of the Zella M. Smith Trust are Ashley Anderson, Jennifer Boren, Rebecca Gausepohl, Clara Hernandez Gonzalez, Laura-Ashley Maurer, Shelby Ramsey, and Stephanie Swinton.

Ashley Anderson, a junior at San Diego State University, is majoring in art with an emphasis in interior design. Jennifer Boren attends Cal Poly Pomona. A senior this year, Jennifer is majoring in management and human resources. A sophomore this year, Rebecca Gausepohl is in pre-nursing at the University of Arizona, Tucson.

Clara Hernandez Gonzalez is a senior majoring in English and Spanish at the University of San Diego. Laura-Ashley Maurer is a junior in the University of the Pacific’s dental hygiene program. Shelby Ramsey is a junior studying communications at Chapman University. A first-year graduate student at New York University’s School of Education, Stephanie Swinton has a BA degree in art history and urban design from NYU and is working toward her masters of arts in visual culture and costume design.

For information on scholarships, send two self-addressed stamped #10 envelopes to: Diane O’Brien, Fallbrook AAUW Scholarship Chair, PO Box 1061, Fallbrook CA 92088-1061. Applications will be mailed out after January 3 and the deadline for submission is April 20. Applicants must be currently enrolled full-time in college and a high school graduate to apply.
