Fourth-graders needed for coloring contest

FALLBROOK — Fallbrook fourth-graders are being asked to put their creative caps on for a water conservation coloring contest. The best and brightest posters depicting this year’s “Water Conservation and Me” theme will be included in the 2006 water conservation calendar that will be available to FPUD customers.

The annual contest is a collaborative effort by 13 North County water agencies, including the Fallbrook Public Utility District. It is an effort to highlight the importance of water awareness in semi-arid San Diego County. Most fourth-graders have studied water and the water cycle and can vividly depict the need for saving water.

Many of Fallbrook’s fourth grade classrooms have been visited by FPUD staff to talk about water conservation and invite pupils to participate in the contest. Pupils whose classes have not been visited are also encouraged to enter. Contest forms can be picked up at the FPUD district office, 990 East Mission Road, along with this year’s calendar that includes 2005 Fallbrook winners Dan Gaspar and Daniel Solis, both of La Paloma Elementary, and Benjamin Jacques of Live Oak School.

The deadline to enter is Thursday, March 31. Winning entries will be selected in April and prizes will be distributed in May, which has been designated Water Awareness Month. Winners will be recognized at an FPUD board meeting.

Posters will be judged on best expression of the theme, design, creativity and artistic skill. All Fallbrook pupils’ artwork will also be posted in FPUD’s community room throughout the month of May. The 2006 calendar will be ready for distribution at the end of the year and copies will be available to customers coming in to the office.
