Gibney, Slatlem, Murphy win NSDAR honors

FALLBROOK — The February 17 meeting of the Monserate Chapter National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution (SDAR) at the Vista Valley Country Club was a special one. Honored guests included the local winners of the American History Essay contest sponsored each year by NSDAR as well as the outstanding high school senior named as the 2005 DAR Good Citizen, their parents and teachers.

Stephanie Slatlem was named as the fifth grade winner and Sean J. Gibney as the eighth grade winner in the American History Essay Contest. Students wrote on the subject of the Lewis and Clark Expedition of 1804-1806, adopting the persona of a member of the Corps of Discovery. Both winners are students at St. Peter’s Catholic School in Fallbrook.

Lauren Olivia Murphy, a student at Fallbrook High School, received the 2005 DAR Good Citizen Award as an outstanding high school senior demonstrating dependability, service, leadership and patriotism. In addition to the Monserate Chapter award, Murphy has been named CSSDAR District XIV winner, the next step toward a national DAR scholarship.

All of the students received certificates as well as monetary awards.
