Iowa Street students visit Fallbrook Historical Society

FALLBROOK - A large group of Iowa Street students spent several hours recently at the Fallbrook Historical Society, touring the buildings and hearing presentations by the museum docents. The field trip was sponsored by the Fallbrook Union Elementary School District for the students in the homeschool program.

The students, teachers, and parents visited the society’s main museum which features a working model train display with miniature replicas of twelve Fallbrook buildings from 1882 to the early 1900’s; the gem and mineral room featuring local geological treasures; the Ford room with three restored antique Fords and a display of all the historic posters from the Fallbrook Vintage Car Club; the Pittenger House, a “turn of the century” farmhouse furnished in period pieces; and the “barn” which contains agricultural displays, local farm history, antique farm machinery, tool collections, and depictions of life in the early days of Fallbrook.

According to teacher Kathy Leonard, “The Iowa Street School kids so enjoyed their amazing tour of the Fallbrook Historical Museum. They were particularly interested in the ‘town models’ and the ‘train reproduction.’ Not many of our students knew that Fallbrook had been a popular train stop. Parents were equally impressed with the many historical artifacts and the knowledgeable docents. We are all very grateful for a fantastic visit as well as all the information about amazing Fallbrook.”
