It's a musical time

Happy New Year! Students and teachers are glad to be back at school after the holiday break and are adjusting back into schedule for their first weeks of 2005. Having just finished a series of winter shows, Sullivan band and choir members are now practicing new music to prepare for their annual “Music in the Parks” competition. Band students are working on a variety of songs from classical pieces to marches, while the choir is working equally as hard and singing beautifully. Usually the performance is held sometime in late spring toward the end of the school year and takes place at Disneyland, where students enjoy a fun afternoon with their teammates. Eighth grade students are currently reading “The Diary of Anne Frank,” which tells the story of a young Jewish girl who went into hiding with her family to escape the Nazis. When Anne and her family went to their hiding place for the first time, they could not use suitcases because it would seem too suspicious, so they wore all the clothing they were taking with them. To honor the young girl and her family, each eighth grade sore class set aside a day to wear as many clothes as they could fit in to!
