Kahle, Helling make Eagle Scout

On Nov. 9, 2004, Jordan Michael Kahle and Ryan Helling went before the Eagle Board of Review of the Boy Scouts of America in San Diego and passed with flying colors, making parents Bob & Valerie and Rob & Linda very proud. Both young men are members of Troop 731, which is sponsored by St. Peter’s Catholic Community. Jordan is a sophomore at Fallbrook High School and Ryan is an eighth-grader at Potter Jr. High. Their Eagle Court of Honor was held on Saturday, Jan. 15, at St. Peter’s, with family and friends attending.

Jordan’s Eagle Project was constructing a dumpster enclosure for St. Peter’s School. He planned the project and, with the help of some of his fellow Scouts and family members, he completed it in one weekend. The enclosure was built by pouring a concrete slab and building a wooden fence with two gates to hide the dumpsters near the parking lot. This will also keep people from filling the dumpsters with their own trash.

Ryan’s Eagle Project benefited Potter Jr. High’s special education class. He constructed a movable garden to make gardening for the special needs students easier. He also had the help of some of his fellow Scouts and a couple of the dads, including his own. He built the garden on rollers with a hand crank to raise and lower it, making it possible for students in wheelchairs to have access without having to sit on the ground.

Scoutmaster Jordon Malbrough, also very proud of his two new Eagles, challenged both boys to help three other boys achieve the rank of Eagle in their lifetimes. One of the best things about their achievement is that Jordan and Ryan are cousins and have lived next door to each other their entire lives, making it a real joy — not to mention convenience — for their families to celebrate together. You can expect great things from both of these young men in the future.
