New associate

Fallbrook Union Elementary School District Superintendent James M. Choate recommended the board authorize a contract for Dr. Janis Tait Schultz to be the district’s associate superintendent educational services. Upon board approval, Dr. Schultz will assume the responsibilities of retiring Assistant Superintendent Dr. Constance Fish as well as additional responsibilities. An “associate superintendent” is a classification between assistant superintendent and superintendent; Dr. Schultz will be FUESD’s first associate superintendent.

Dr. Schultz is currently the assistant superintendent educational services (elementary) for the Torrance Unified School District. She has 17 schools in her division. Dr. Schultz once worked for our district; she was the principal at the San Onofre School from 1983 to 1989. In 1989 she accepted a principalship in Torrance. She was promoted to curriculum coordinator in 1995 and to the assistant superintendent position in 1996. She earned her doctorate of instructional management from Pepperdine in 1998. Mike is recommending that the board approve her start date with our district in July; Dr. Fish plans to retire at the end of August.

The superintendent has recommended that the board adopt a new salary schedule for the associate superintendent (agenda item 17). The schedule starts at $114,585 with a maximum of $131,487 with at least five years of experience.
