Oasis High starts school year with new programs - Oasis High School News

Summer has come to an end. How sad is that sentence? But, school is in session! How exciting is that sentence? The last few weeks have been filled with shopping for school supplies, shopping for clothes, and now book bags are being dusted off and students are getting ready for day one.

Oasis High School, Home of the Paladins, started the school year with a great orientation on the Fallbrook High School campus. On August 27, Principal Wirth began the orientation night with a full house. Dr. Wirth and Oasis’ staff explained the new and terrific changes for the school with a great PowerPoint presentation that is on the school’s website

Along with the PowerPoint, Dr. Wirth explained a lot of excellent technology programs that are going to be available for Oasis students. First of all, Oasis has begun to adopt the 21stCentury Learning Standards (www.p21.org). Dr. Wirth explained the Fallbrook Union High School District’s goals for 21st Century Learning and what is expected of all students.

Naviance (www.naviance.com)

is new career and college planning program that Oasis will be integrating into this school year. Furthermore, Aeries Parent Portal also will be available for parents to check their student’s attendance, grades, and any debts.

A fantastic multi-school agreement Oasis shares with Fallbrook High is with California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) which allows Oasis students to try out and participate in Fallbrook High athletics. I participated in that last year and enjoyed it very much.

Dr. Wirth also announced Oasis is in the second year of a three year accreditation by the Western Association Schools and Colleges (WASC). Oasis will be renewed this following school year for a six year accreditation. Moreover, Algebra 1, English 9, Spanish 1, and Spanish 2 have been approved through the UC “a-g” requirements.

Besides incorporating many new technological advancements and receiving accreditations, this year Oasis is offering great opportunities in leadership. This year, Oasis High will have an Associated Student Body (ASB). I am looking forward to these chances to improve my leadership skills with Oasis. In addition, Oasis will have a student board representative, and the school site council.

Dr. Wirth and her team are getting a running start on 21st Century Learning and leadership opportunities at Oasis High School. It’s crazy to me that I am now a sophomore. It seems like my freshman year just began! Summer has ended for now, but I’m ready to get started on a new school year!
