Transformation at Vallecitos School

In the teachers’ lounge at Rainbow’s Vallecitos Elementary School the cabinets were a hideous pink and the rest of the room was a rather dull nondescript color. However, that was all changed during the last holiday weekend, when the room was miraculously transformed into ‘Caffé del Professore,’ a chic room with a Tuscan bistro flavor. “Other teachers’ lounges may be decorated, but I’m sure that nobody else has their own bistro,” said Jonnie Flanagan, a Vallecitos mother who took part in the transformation process.

“I was just stunned,” said Ms. Bollinger, a seventh grade teacher who has been teaching at Vallecitos since 1992. “It has always looked like an institution,” she reflected. “Now it is so comfortable that it is hard to leave.” At times the teachers have had to be reminded that their break was over and it was time to return to class. “They’ve had to pry us out,” Ms. Bollinger recalled.
