Angel Joy Blue joins Redlands Orchestra in concert

FALLBROOK — In its fourth concert of the season, the Fallbrook Music Society presents Redlands Symphony Orchestra and soprano soloist Angel Joy Blue, under the baton of Maestro Jon Robertson. The program will include the overture to the opera “Nabucco,” several arias from Mozart and Verdi operas, and Mendelssohn’s Fourth Symphony, the “Italian.”

21-year-old guest soloist Angel Joy Blue comes to this symphony performance with many accolades surrounding her young career. In 2004, Angel received the Miss California Pageant Talent Award, having previously been crowned Miss Apple Valley, the first African-American to hold this title.

“I believe to whom much is given, much is required,” says Ms. Blue. “I know that I have been given a gift and I hope to bless others with my gift.” Angel is presently in her senior year at Redlands University.

The second half of the program will feature Mendelssohn’s Italian Symphony, written when the composer was 24 years old. Thinking about some of his earlier experiences in Italy, Mendelssohn tried to express through music the emotions one could experience through youthful wanderings in Italy.

Concert is at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, March 13. Conductor’s Preview at 2:30 p.m. Both will take place at the Bob Burton Center for the Performing Arts in Fallbrook. For information, please call (760) 728-4056. Tickets may be purchased by calling (760) 451-8644.
