'Anything Goes' for Marcia Parrish

Cole Porter’s charming musical comedy “Anything Goes” went down as a hit this past Friday and Saturday night at the Bob Burton Center for Performing Arts at Fallbrook Union High School. For those who aren’t familiar with the story, it takes place on the SS American. On the ship is a gangster on the run posing as a minister (played by Mark Larson); a former evangelist who is a nightclub singer (Jamie McClellan); a society miss (Camille Anderson) who is engaged to Lord Evelyn Oakleigh (Matt Schnarr); and her ex-boyfriend, who stows away on the boat to try to win her back (Devin Welsh). A series of comical mistaken identities ensues as the passengers and crew sing and dance their way across the Atlantic, performing such hit Broadway pieces as “It’s De-lovely” and “Anything Goes.”

The show was put on by Kelley Bell, the FUHS choir instructor, along with the FUHS Madrigals and VOICE. The director and choreographer was Rosemarie Schroeder, accompanied by Stephen Schroeder as the co-choreographer, Robin Stanger as the assistant director and Lisa Lane as the stage manager. “The wonderful cast of talented performers at Fallbrook High School has worked hard to present you with an exciting and entertaining show. Amidst all the demands of school, homework, sports and other extracurricular activities, this gifted group of young adults has given this production happy energy and dedication. Assisted by the tremendous parents of these fantastic teenagers, ‘Anything Goes’ has been a joyful experience,” says Schroeder.

All the proceeds from the performance will be donated to Ms. Marcia Parrish, who has been the stage manager for the musicals and drama performances for the past three years and has always been there to support

and encourage the programs. The money is being donated to her because she was recently diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor. The high school drama program will also present a review of Marcia’s favorite scenes and acts over the years on June 5th at the Bob Burton Center and donating the proceeds to Ms. Parrish. If you would like to make a different type of donation to the fund for Marcia Parrish, please call (760) 728-1882.

If you missed “Anything Goes” this time around, it’s not too late. There will be three more performances: April 28, 29 and 30 at 7 p.m.
