Fallbrook Outlaws grab first place in Yuma

Our local Old West Gunfight and Stunt team, The Fallbrook Outlaws, went to Yuma, AZ, on January 15 and 16 for the seventh annual Gathering of the Gunfighters group competition at the Yuma Territorial State Prison Historic Park and Museum.

There were 14 teams of re-enactors from California, Arizona, and Nevada that made the trip this year for the two-day event to entertain the prison’s visitors and fight for first place. All 14 teams performed on Saturday, with judges making the difficult decision of which eight teams would come back to compete on Sunday. It didn’t get any easier on Sunday. The judges had warmed up, knew what to look for and expected the best from everyone. In return, the groups didn’t make it easy for the judges. There was a tie for first place, and those two teams had to perform another skit to break the tie. After the smoke had cleared, The Fallbrook Outlaws had won; second place went to the Southwest Ghost Riders (also a San Diego County team), and in third place, Pistols and Petticoats from Apache Junction, AZ. This was the second trip for the Fallbrook Outlaws, who came home last year with a second-place trophy. If you’re ever out that way, take a little time to see a piece of our country’s history and visit the prison; it’s right off Interstate 8, exit 1 Giss Parkway.
