Workshops planned for caregivers

The Fallbrook HealthCare Foundation continues their “Salute to Caregivers” by providing a series of workshops to help the caregivers in our community.

Director of Resources Renae Rasmussen said that the “Salute to Caregivers” is “to simply say thank you to all those who are caring for their loved one[s]. We know that nearly one out of every four households is involved in caregiving to a friend or family member 50 years of age or older. These caregivers need our thanks and our help.”

The presenter of the workshops is Veronika Glenn, director of education and training of Southern Caregiver Resource Center. Mrs. Glenn received her nursing education in Germany and has worked in the healthcare community in San Diego for 25 years.

Over 30 community members attended the first workshop to learn about caregiver issues. There are three more workshops in this series. April 11, “The Aging Process: What is Normal and What is Not.” May 13, “The Frail Elderly: When and How to Help.” June 3, “Dementia: What is it and What is it Not?”

These free workshops are given at the foundation’s historical Pittenger House at 135 S. Mission Road in Fallbrook and begin at 10 a.m. To reserve a seat, please call Renae Rasmussen at (760) 723-7570.

Upon completion of the workshops in June, Southern Caregiver Resource Center will offer an educational opportunity entitled “Powerful Tools.” This class is designed to provide caregivers with tools to reduce stress, to make difficult caregiving decisions and to prevent burnout. Please call (760) 723-7570 to reserve a seat.
