Youth help youth stay fit

FALLBROOK — The fun and games began on February 9 at the Hilltop Center in Fallbrook. It was the first day of the new wellness program implemented by the Diabetes Exercise Task Force, comprised of the AVID program teens from Fallbrook High School. The teens volunteered to tackle the exercise component of Type 2 diabetes prevention by developing games and activities to reach out to youngsters to increase their physical well-being.

Fallbrook is in its second year of a three-year project to identify, prevent and control Type 2 diabetes in the community’s children. This project has been funded by the Fallbrook Village Rotary, Fallbrook Healthcare District and many representatives of the healthcare community and others who have come together voluntarily to support this effort. The First Church of Religious Science at the Hilltop Center has offered their facilities for the teens’ project. Games nights are held twice weekly after school at 331 E. Elder St. For more information, call Chairwoman Pat Sica at (760) 728-3039.
