Garden talk in the Square

A garden can be many things and many things can comprise a garden. That was underscored when the Fallbrook Garden Club treated local residents and visitors to an educational day in the Fallbrook Village Square on June 11 during National Garden Week.

The local group, comprised of some 400 members, presented numerous demonstrations pertaining to composting, worm castings and floral design for the public. Volunteers were on hand to encourage interest and involvement in one of America’s favorite pastimes — gardening.

Dan Myer of Grangetto’s volunteered his time to give short talks on organic gardening, fertilizing and pest control to garden enthusiasts. In addition, other activities were offered for adults and children. A plant and craft sale rounded out the offerings and gave it an element of country fair.

An intriguing stop at the event was at the area set up by Rommie and Nikki Huntington of Sand Fire Dragon Ranch in Bonsall, who provided a fascinating exhibit of reptiles and frogs. Everything from bearded dragons to frogs to chameleons was on display and found fascinating by visitors.

The concept of having these types of events in the Village Square is very community-friendly and provides for easy access and high visibility.

Garden Club member Sharon Kersey said, “We are trying to create more interest in gardening and encourage people to join the club.”
