Mark B. Kirk

“New, Best and Brightest” reads the brochure for Mark Kirk’s newest home building project in Fallbrook. This house, with over 5,000 square feet, is an incredible creation with wrought iron and glass entry doors that look like they belong in a Tuscan villa. Italian influence is noticeable throughout the home and the living room has windows that reach almost from ceiling to floor. This home has an abundance of glass, which is almost a necessity when a home is built high on a hilltop with a 360-degree view of the surrounding area.

Kirk, a Fallbrook resident, has been building executive and estate homes since 1990. His passion for the projects is evident in the fine craftsmanship of the finished product. “I like being able to be creative and see it come to completion,” said Mark. He is able to do this with his business, which encompasses development, design and construction. With all three elements he is able to keep a tight rein on the costs as well. Taking the project from start to finish has “saved a lot of heartaches,” said Mark.

He has a gift for design and incorporates unusual and state-of-the-art features in his homes. Several of his customers have presented plans from architects that have been unaffordable. “It is always a frustrating experience,” he said. The clients will either have to re-work the plans themselves or return to the architect for plan alterations. Kirk avoids this and saves time and money for his clients by designing the home himself. “He has a true air of professionalism,” said one client.

Mark has a reputation for his amazing attention to detail, which is demonstrated by the lighted niches for statuary or fine art, translucent wall scones, travertine floors and other fine details present in the home.

The kitchen has granite countertops and a pantry with an etched glass door. When I opened the door a light automatically flashed on. The automatic pantry light is something that Kirk thought would be handy for the person doing the cooking. “You have your hands full when you come out of the pantry,” he said. Other kitchen features include a refrigerator which blends in with the cupboards, and two dishwashers camouflaged as drawers.

In my opinion, the crowning glory was the walk-in-closet in the master bedroom the size of a one-car garage! This closet has two windows, as well as built-in shelves and cubbyholes to keep everything neat and orderly.

The entertainment center includes a niche for a large-screen television with the speakers already imbedded in the wall. One of the unique features of this home is a room behind the entertainment center, accessed from the outside, which serves as a control center for the wiring and electrical boxes needed for the television, computer and interior lighting system.

‘Solatube’ lighting, which takes the place of skylights and allows natural light to enter the home, is used by Kirk in many of his homes. “It is good for any area without direct lighting,” he said.

Kirk relaxes by riding his Honda Gold Wing motorcycle, which he purchased in San Francisco, then rode back to Fallbrook. He recently took a road trip to Colorado and New Mexico with his brother-in-law who also has a Gold Wing. They were just leaving the small town of Chama, New Mexico where they ran into a thunderstorm so violent that they had to turn around and return to town. Kirk has ridden motorcycles since he was a teenager and started with a Honda 750 and then moved up to the larger Gold Wing which he enjoys riding “where there isn’t much traffic.”
