Seminar on saving water with native plants Feb. 26

FALLBROOK — The Fallbrook Land Conservancy is once again scheduling a series of educational talks for residents of the area. The first in the series will be about native and drought-tolerant plants presented by Greg Rubin of California’s Own Native Landscape Design. The event will take place on Saturday, Feb. 26, at the Fallbrook Public Utility Community Room.

Water is such a critical ingredient for our comfort and well-being that learning to landscape wisely to conserve water is of great importance. Plant materials that use little or no water and yet provide year-round beauty are the focus of the talk.

Rubin has been creating stunning native landscapes for 16 years (seven of which in the San Diego area). This lengthy background specializing in the North County area gives him the knowledge of what works and doesn’t work. Whether your home is in the very large category in outlying areas or the small lot size in the heart of the community, you will benefit in the knowledge that he will share. An expert in the field of planting, Rubin comes with an array of slides that give you the visual impact of growing native. Designs that he will share are community-based for maximum adaptability, disease resistance, and drought tolerance. Controlling exotic weeds is a high priority for Rubin because it diminishes major combustion sources.

For any additional information on the seminar, call the Fallbrook Land Conservancy Office at (760) 728-0889.
