Team effort pays off in this new home

Not often do new homeowners, their custom builders and interior decorators work so closely as in the case of Melvyn and Sue Michaelian’s home building project.

The Country French-style home is located in the hills of Southeast Fallbrook on a one-and-a-half acre site, which the couple purchased back in l985 when they moved to town. Construction started in June of 2003 and the home was finished 16 months later.

Builder Jeff Brand and decorator Reba Lemmons were closely involved with the Michaelians in working out the many finite details of construction and decorating… everything from colors and textures of stone for the exterior to deciding the best layout for traffic flow and fabrics appropriate to the rooms. The results speak for themselves!

The hillside home was planned to accommodate all of the Michaelians’ everyday activities on the main floor. Upstairs are two large bedrooms with baths and a large view balcony overlooking green hillsides, ready for use when family or guests arrive. The 4,400-square-foot house has four bedrooms, three baths and two half baths.

The Michaelians’ three children live in Southern California, and one portion of the lower lawn contains enticing climbing equipment for Melvyn and Sue’s five grandchildren to enjoy on frequent visits. A small orchard of 18 fruit trees is located nearby, and alongside the lower driveway is a lawn area with a protective under layer to allow for overflow parking when entertaining.

“I really like the kitchen/family room and study areas, and Sue particularly enjoys her computer desk and the sewing room,” Melvyn commented. Both are committed to their church work and lead Bible study groups. With the space available in their home and the comfortable floor plan, they’re well equipped to handle any gathering!
