Authorities say man committed suicide with gun; found evidence of intent in his home

Authorities just reported that an elderly man who was found dead near the entry of Rancho Monserate Country Club Estates in Fallbrook this morning took his own life.

"My sergeant at the scene said the gun the man used to take his own life was discovered beneath his body," said Lt. Todd Richardson, commander of the Fallbrook Sheriff's substation.

The man, whose identity has not yet been released officially, was found inside the guard's shack at the entrance to the community, located near Old Highway 395 and Dulin Road at about 11:30 a.m. today, Tues., Jan. 29.

Richardson said as the investigation ensued today, detectives visited the man's residence inside the community and found "writings" detailing significant medical conditions the man had and his intent to end his life.

Authorities restricted access in and out of the Rancho Monserate community during the initial phase of the investigation.

Body of man discovered at entry to mobile home community

Sheriff's officials have confirmed that the body of a man was found at Rancho Monserate Country Club Estates near Old Highway 395 and Dulin Road.

Just before 11:30 a.m. today, Tuesday, January 29, authorities temporarily closed access in and out of the community while an investigation was started.

"It appears this may have been a suicide," said Lt. Todd Richardson, commander of the Fallbrook Sheriff's substation. "My officers at the scene say it appears an older man shot himself, but I am waiting on our detectives to make that determination."

Residents of the community said the man's body was found inside the guard shack located at the entry of the development.
