Camp Pendleton fire contained to 250 acres

CAMP PENDLETON – A brush fire broke out this afternoon in a training area at the northern end of Camp Pendleton and quickly blackened about 250 acres.

The fire began in the San Mateo area about 2:30 p.m. and was likely sparked by a training exercise, although the official cause had yet to be determined, Camp Pendleton Deputy Fire Chief Robert Johnson said.

Firefighters from the North County military installation and the Orange County Fire Authority had the blaze about 10 percent contained as of 5:30 p.m., Johnson said.

No injuries were reported and no structures were threatened, he said, adding that crews expect to have the fire fully contained on Thursday.

Ahhhh, The smoke of Freedom! It’s not even July yet and their training to put out fires and smoke us out……

Does this surprise anybody? Same old predictions year after year. Perhaps the USMC should train their personnel in firefighting, also, so the on base fire department doesn’t have to call on outside agencies (like the Orang County Fire Authority) for assistance.

After all, they cause the fires, so why not have them be responsible for extinguishing them?

    "Flames of Freedom" ………..Right rah-rahs?

Common sense is not lost here

ALL fire departments call in other agencies for help. NCFPD calls in agencies, such as Camp Pendleton Fire Department, when they have an emergency situation. The fire was contained quickly, no structures threatened. You whiners need to find a hobby.

I’d rather see a fire on Pendleton than say Palomar. There are fires every year on Pendleton, meaning not as much brush to burn up. Also, have you seen those fire lines they carve out? They crisscross the whole base. Most places are accessible (unlike Palomar) and because they have live fire training they are ALWAYS on the lookout. NO worries here.

Hey Fire Captain…you call us whiners? That’s hilarious. No government workers whine more than firemen.

How about your brothers in the City of San Diego Fire Department who one said got "Irritable Bowel Syndrome" because they made him drive a fire engine in the Gay Pride Parade. Waaaaaaaah.

@me- have a wreck or need medical assistance on I-5 south of San clement and North of Oceanside – even as a civilian – the Federal Fire Fighters aboard Camp Pendleton are the ones who respond – just assisting Orange and San Deigo Counties. Also, @me- how about you drive a HMMWV in support of a Marine Pride parade – bet you would have your panties in a wad too – being forced to show support for somethng you do not believe in; but the Marines would show you courtsey and respect, unlike the proud gays showed the fire fighters

It is clear to me that "Me" has a thing about men in uniform. He hates them for some reason (or is it envy) I wonder what episode in his life that stems from?

Looks like we have a regular Dr. Phil here…..

Just a point here…..when a fire breaks out on Camp Pendleton it’s usually much smaller and quickly contained by the base fire authority, which speaks to the measures that the USMC goes to to control fires despite dangerous training activities involving explosives and equipment. Whereas fires off base if they get beyond a few acres quickly grow out of control and involve more civilian resources and cost.

You grunts are doing a fine job!

regarding comment #8. Let me correct your statement to read: ‘unlike SOME proud gays showed the fire fighters’.

Please don’t make sweeping generalizations. Thank You.

Everyone just ignore ME, his/her intentions are nothing but to complain and anger others. If you have noticed ME never states anything valid or opinionated just merely complains or takes petty jabs at others. My guess is ME is just some kid who is trying to stir the pot because I have yet to read anything by ME that has any form of intelligence.

@JM says: "If you have noticed ME never states anything valid or opinionated…just merely complains."

Actually I think I am quite opinionated JM….and I believe I have the right to complain about something I don’t like……and just because YOU don’t like what I say doesn’t mean it’s not "valid."

    Your middle name Adolf?

  15. grunt   June 28, 2013 at 8:03 am

@bonsall gay guy – I stand corrected, you are correct, most gays do "behave" in a manner acceptable to all. I guess it is like the Marines, a few bad apples ….

  16. JM   June 28, 2013 at 11:15 am

@ME, no one hear wants to hear petty complaints, we want your opinion stated clearly so that we may either agree or disagree, thats the point of these threads. This post for example, "Flames of Freedom" ………..Right rah-rahs?. I see you’re mad but about what? Do you not like the idea of fires, or do you not like the idea of marines in general, or based on this, "No government workers whine more than firemen.", maybe you just dont like government in general. Either way I have no idea where you are trying to take your thoughts. Those are random complaints and shows no concrete opinion. How can anyone respond to either enforce or persuade your opinion when your opinion is so broad and unclear.

@JM: Me has a third grade vocabulary combined with a profound hatred of anyone in a uniform, not to mention his fear of noises. Pretty much it.

  18. @ LOL and JM   June 28, 2013 at 4:19 pm

You took the words right out of my mouth with regards to it…..errrr….rather "Me."

There is no reason year after year to have fires on the base……
Your RAh Rah guys….give it a break…….most just joined up because they couldn’t get anything going after high school…
Less than 10% actually get anything done in the service…
In my opinion, most of the guys are a lazy, have to be told what to do, lazy, dumb……… i know this because i have family members who served for years……and that’s mostly what they said is in the corp… know its true…..we have all heard and meet them…….I’m not saying I’m not proud of the men and women who give the lives everyday….we are the few and the proud…..but it’s not rocket science… You joined up do your job….quit running your pie hole every time someone says something against the corp……..

  20. Knight of Fallbrook   June 29, 2013 at 12:33 pm

Yes maybe most people who enlist are straight out of high school and need direction coming from someone else, even lazy maybe but that doesnt matter when these lazy people are signing up their LIVES. Now a lot of people say that the enlisted were just dumb and werent aware of the possible repurcusions but it still shouldnt matter. These people are willing to give up everything about their lives, including the loss of it and no matter what there reason was we should respect them solely based on that fact.

  21. grunt   June 29, 2013 at 2:35 pm

@wizzard of Fallbrook – less than 10% get anything done? Pray tell what "anything" you mean? Lazy? try living the day of an infantry man- then talk to me; dumb? trade places with a LCPL (e-3, about 19 years old) as he trouble shoots and repairs an aircraft; have to be told what to do? guess you do not understand incentive is praised and rewarded in the Corps. I am thinking you described your family as dumb and lazy and we all know the apple does not fall far from the tree.

  22. Wizard of Fallbrook   June 30, 2013 at 6:39 am

Grunt………..Your a Grunt……still be looking for work when you get out…….Just because you tighten a few bolts and sweep up a hanger……doesn’t make you and aircraft mechanic…….And Knight just do your job and quit asking everyone to pat you on the back……do a tour in the Nam…..come home after two tours……and see how people treated you then……..
Just stop the fires… hard could that be……easier than being an aircraft mechanic….don’t you think…….

  23. Pink   July 1, 2013 at 9:09 am

It is amazing, everything and I do mean everything, that Wizard of Fallbrook says is total and complete nonsense!! That is some kind of record. I mean does he even believe that he is making any kind of sense? Drugs??

  24. grunt   July 1, 2013 at 3:28 pm

@ wizzard – not sure I could understand what you said; but I am retired, am working, did Nam. Sweeping the hanger is one of many jobs the A/C mechs do – who do you think keeps them flying? "and Knight just do your job…" no idea at all what that sentence may mean. I do not think I have read of any Marine who who asked for a pat on the back. What does how people treated us then pertain to the discussion?

@ Pink – yep, probably you are right. 🙂
