Camp Pendleton to host aerial wildland firefighting exercise

CAMP PENDLETON - An aerial firefighting exercise involving units from Camp Pendleton, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, Navy Region Southwest, Cal Fire, and the San Diego Sheriff's Department will take place on Base from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Thursday, May 9.

This exercise, the sixth iteration of its kind, will provide ready, trained and certified military and civilian resources to combat wildland fires in the region and culminates with a cooperative effort to extinguish a simulated wildland fire.

Navy, Marine Corps and civilian helicopters will be supporting Camp Pendleton and Cal Fire ground teams in establishing a fire line and conducting water bucket operations. The training will certify the pilots in these operations and build relations between the agencies involved.
