Candidates sought for 2010 Miss Fallbrook pageant

The Miss Fallbrook Pageant is seeking lovely young women interested in becoming the 2010 Miss Fallbrook and Junior Miss Fallbrook.

There are currently no candidates signed up for the pageant, but CAST Academy, the business in charge of putting on the pageant, is looking for girls from 17 to 24 years of age to be contestants for the Miss Fallbrook Pageant on April 17, and 13 to 16-year-old girls to compete in the Junior Miss Pageant on April 10.

“This year will have two pageants; the Junior Miss Fallbrook is new this year,” said Patty Hornsveld, owner of CAST. “This is a first-time-ever event for Fallbrook, but it is common around the county.”

In order to be eligible for either pageant, girls planning on competing must be single and not have children.

“The girls are required to find a sponsor or sponsors,” said Hornsveld. “A minimum of $300 in sponsor money is required for each contestant.”

A sponsor donating $300 will receive two seats for the pageant and a colored advertisement in the pageant program. Contestants will also thank them publicly and mention their support at every social function they attend.

This year, the judges will be women who have won pageant crowns at state levels, said Hornsveld.

“Fallbrook’s Mayor will also judge, provided she does not know any of the contestants,” she said.

The deadline to sign up for either one of the pageants will be Feb. 28. Contestants can sign up without a sponsor, but must have their sponsor money and advertising art handed and turned in by March 1.

Miss Fallbrook is a great way for young women to become involved in community service, said Hornsveld. Miss Fallbrook and her court will make scheduled appearances at town events. Appearances include the Avocado Festival, Bonsall Sundowners events, Fallbrook Health Fair, Fallbrook’s Relay for Life, Crop Walk, the Veteran’s Day Parade, and grand opening ribbon cutting ceremonies.

Miss Fallbrook’s court will also attend community events, and the court will appear in her place when she cannot appear.

After her reign, Miss Fallbrook is given a scholarship of $1,000 if she is successful in completing 75 percent of her scheduled appearances for the community of Fallbrook.

An informational meeting for those interested in becoming Miss Fallbrook candidates will be held Feb. 21 at 1 p.m. at the Mission Theater. The meeting should answer all questions candidates may have, but ladies can register now.
