Civil Air Patrol to fly in remembrance of victims of 9/11 and War on Terror - Fallbrook Civil Air Patrol Squadron 87 takes to the skies

FALLBROOK – On September 11, 2001, shortly after the attacks on the World Trade Centers in New York, aircraft from the Civil Air Patrol were the only aircraft flying over the devastation on a mission to survey and photograph the damage. Since then, CAP has been increasingly involved in Homeland Security missions nationwide.

To honor the victims of September 11th and those who have lost their lives in the War on Terror, the California Wing – Civil Air Patrol will be flying their aircraft in the skies of California and carrying American flags aloft to commemorate the day.

"Flying is one of the purest forms of freedom there is. What better way to honor those lost in the attacks and those who have died fighting our War on Terror than to go aloft in our red, white and blue aircraft carrying our nation's flag and fly the skies of California" say Colonel Jon Stokes, Commander of the California Wing.

“We have challenged other wings throughout the country to do the same and wings from Nevada, Hawaii, Georgia, New

York, Wisconsin, North Dakota and South Dakota have taken up the challenge and I am sure more are to follow” said Stokes.

Dedicated members of the local Civil Air Patrol Fallbrook Squadron 87 will be a part of this great event. They will be flying training sorties (flights) throughout the day from Fallbrook Airpark.

These local volunteers have committed to fly 8 to 10 sorties in the Civil Air Patrol aircraft. Many of the flights will include an individual American flag. The California Wing has 29 specially equipped Cessna aircraft assigned throughout the

state and they will also be flying.
