Decades of history drove onto the grass field of Potter Jr. High School as the sun rose on May 26. Over 300 engines revved, roaring in preparation for the 48th annual Fallbrook Vintage Car Show.
Whether a muscle car or a woody, foreign or domestic, all vintage vehicles were welcomed to the event sponsored by the Fallbrook Vintage Car Club, region of the AACA.
Some owners boasted of years of greasy, hard work spent under the hood of their cars. The tender love and care put into them showed Memorial Day weekend, as the unique colors and styles packed the rows.
Ralph Moody of Fallbrook said that it took “about one and half years total,” to complete his 1933 Ford two-door sedan. “I wanted one of these,” he admitted, “it just needed a whole lot of work.”
The event, that promises fun for the whole family, drew in thousands who enjoyed the novelty of vintage vehicles and good food throughout the day.
Providing the popular pancake breakfast and barbecue lunch were the helping hands of the Fallbrook Firefighters Association, along with other local businesses.
Roy Moosa, president of the Fallbrook Vintage Car Club said, “Everything we earn goes back into the community. We cover the costs to put the show on and then all the money raised goes to local charities.” Moosa said he was thankful for the support of the vendors and car owners, “who we wouldn’t be here without.”
The 1950s to 60s Lincoln models were selected as the feature car of this year’s show. Sixteen Lincolns decorated the field, providing tough competition for car owners.
John Ellison, a feature car owner, said, “This show always has a lot of vintage cars you don’t usually see at other shows.” He personally drove his four-door, convertible Lincoln Continental out just for the show.
The winners, in 24 different vintage categories, were announced at the end of the day. Each received a plaque and a box of locally grown avocadoes.
The Fallbrook Vintage Car Show continues to produce a larger crowd each time, and this year’s Honorary Mayor Leo Romero said, “The parking lot was full by 10 a.m.”
The free admission to the show, raffle prizes, fresh food, and rows upon rows of classic cars provided yet another charitable, fun-filled, sunny day for the community.
