Congressman Darrell Issa comments on Dept. of Justice monitoring Associated Press (AP) phone line

WASHINGTON- House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa issued a statement today, Mon., May 13, following statement on the news that the Department of Justice has been monitoring Associated Press phone lines, including a line in the press gallery of the U.S. House of Representatives:

“This is obviously disturbing. Coming within a week of revelations that the White House lied to the American people about the Benghazi attacks and the IRS targeted conservative Americans for their political beliefs, Americans should take notice that top Obama Administration officials increasingly see themselves as above the law and emboldened by the belief that they don’t have to answer to anyone. I will work with my fellow House Chairmen on an appropriate response to Obama Administration officials.”

Well, Obama promised the most transparent administration ever. He never said transparency of what, just like he never said what the change would be. As the Indians used to say, He speak with forked tongue.

Whoa, whoa , whoa, wait a minute!! With all do respect to Mr Issa and his comments, but that isn’t disturbing. We are coming off of a time where idiotic, pathetic, devilish terrorists have attacked our country, yet we’re questioning why the government interfered with a media outlet. That’s disturbing!! It’s this Administration’s duty to protect the American people! My assumption Mr. Issa, is that there is a reason why they intercepted communications. The Media is not above the government, and if they’re jeopardizing the security of the American people, then it has to be done.

Conservative groups were not being targeted for their beliefs, they were being targeted for their abuse of incorrect (or illegal) Non-Profit formation. The 501c is meant to be carefully implemented, not to be taken advantage of. Any group could be subject to disciplinary and or legal action for their misuse of a non-profit, this time it just happened to be a conservative group. The tricks, manipulation, pointing of fingers, crying of foul and fluff-jargon is not helping the Republican Party!! They’re just not what they used to be..unfortunately.

Wasn’t it the profound Bob Dylan that wrote the politicians creed:

"Steal a little and they throw you in jail… Steal a lot, and they make you a king."

@Moderate – I don’t know what planet you live on, but to excuse the IRS’s actions by saying "The 501c is meant to be carefully implemented, not to be taken advantage of" just proves it isn’t the real world. Don’t you realize the NFL is a tax exempt 501c organization? Check out this article………. http://ivn.us/2013/02/03/super-bowl-profits-more-than-a-game/

Even the IRS themselves have admitted that they were wrong. Why would they lie about that? What are you smoking?

    @ Unapologetic

Your handle may need to change to "apologetic"! The NFL has nothing to do with this specific issue, quite irrelevant actually. That’s rather humorous that you compare such a thing!

Back to the actual topic at hand, any non-profit that is formed has to be carefully implemented. The IRS may be receiving backlash now, because conservatives need a target, this will change immediately. Certain individuals may be disciplined, but analyzing the issue at hand brought them to their findings. They just need to meticulously analyze the law and see how it’s structured.
