Continued cooling expected

SAN DIEGO - Continued cooling is expected throughout inland San Diego County today but meteorologists said people going to the mountains and deserts should still take precautions against heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

''Although temperatures have cooled some from the very hot temperatures of last weekend, it will still be hot each day with warm nights through Independence Day,'' according to the National Weather Service. ''Additional minor cooling is expected for Friday through the weekend.''

Early today, the agency canceled an excessive heat warning for the mountains and deserts that was supposed to have remained in effect through most of Thursday.

Highs today are expected to be 70 to 75 degrees near the coast, 77 to 82 inland, 81 to 86 in the western valleys, 88 to 93 near the foothills, 88 to 98 in the mountains and 109 to 114 in the deserts.

''Continue to take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside,'' the NWS said. ''When possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when possible and drink plenty of water.''
