Crash statistics high during rainy weekend

SAN DIEGO COUNTY (Wire Service) - Rain may have been a factor in the unusually-high number of crashes during the weekend's rain, California Highway Patrol officers said today, Sun., Dec. 30.

There were 83 collisions between noon and 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, when rain was falling on San Diego County roads, officers said.

There are an average 50 to 75 crashes in the county on a typical dry day, the CHP reported.

CHP crash totals account for all state freeways and highways, and local roads in unincorporated areas, but do not include crashes on streets within city limits.
