PALA – According to the California Highway Patrol, on Friday, April 1, at approximately 1:49 p.m., a 30-year-old male from San Diego was riding his off road motorcycle at Pala Raceway at an unknown speed. For reasons still under investigation, he lost control of his motorcycle after attempting a jump.
“The rider and his motorcycle continued out of control until colliding head-on into another rider, a 49-year-old male from Oceanside,” said CHP PIO Jim Bettencourt. “As a result of the collision, the 49-year-old male was pronounced dead on scene. The 30-year-old male was transported to Palomar Hospital with major injuries, but is expected to survive.”
At this time it is unknown if alcohol or drugs played a factor in this collision. It remains under investigation. No other vehicles were involved.
