Officers from the San Diego County Sheriff's Dept. and California Highway Patrol joined together to conduct a DUI checkpoint as part of the Operation Safe Streets program last night, Friday, Jan. 3 in Fallbrook. The cooperative effort resulted in 5 people being arrested and taken into custody.
The charges against those arrested included:
*Driving under the influence of drugs/alcohol
*Driving under the influence of a controlled substance
*Possession of drugs with the intent to distribute
*Outstanding felony warrant.
In addition, officers issued 20 citations. Ten of those were issued to individuals who were driving without a license, four for driving on a suspended license, two for driving without having their license in possession, and four for knowingly allowing an unlicensed driver to operate a vehicle.
The checkpoint was held at South Mission Road at Pepper Tree Lane from 8:30 p.m. to 2 a.m.
Officers said 433 vehicles passed through the checkpoint and 47 of those were sent to a secondary check for additional investigation and/or the issuance of a citation. A total of 10 drivers were given field sobriety tests.
