Also serving the communities of De Luz, Rainbow, Camp Pendleton, Pala and Pauma
On July 4 at the East Ridge Community in Fallbrook, Bob Stamberger gave an outstanding story about the signers of the Declaration of Independence, July 4, 1776. Bob told significant facts about the 56 signers: five captured by the British as traitors and were tortured before they died, 12 had their homes ransacked and burned, nine fought and died from wounds or hardships with the Revolutionary War and many of their children and wives suffered and some were killed.
These signers of the Declaration of Independence were well educated and wealthy. Of the 56, 24 were lawyers or jurists, 11 were merchants and nine were farmers and plantation owners.
The signers of the Declaration of Independence did so knowing full well that the penalty would be death if they were captured. Some escaped by living in the forests and moving about to avoid capture. Of those who served, some were bankrupt and died in poverty.
We are fortunate to have volunteers who make the commitment to serve our nation in so many ways.
