Fallbrook, Bonsall to benefit from guardrail plans

The County of San Diego’s Department of Public Works will be replacing and extending various guardrail end sections.

The Board of Supervisors approved the advertisement for bid and award of a contract January 12, and DPW staff has been finessing the list of guardrail end sections to be replaced and extended. The January 12 action also established an additional $500,000 of appropriations for the program, bringing the total budgeted amount to $987,500.

The contract will include the construction of one new guardrail, on Del Dios Highway, and replacement of guardrail end sections throughout the county. The new end sections will meet current design standards.

The extension portions include an additional 92 feet of guardrail along Old Highway 395: 40 additional feet apiece near Reche Road and near Sterling View and 12 additional feet at the Interstate 15 overcrossing between Fallbrook and Rainbow. Roadway segments slated for guardrail replacements include Camino Del Rey at the bridge west of Camino de los Caballos, Camino Del Rey west of West Lilac Road, East Vista Way south of and north of Hutchison Street and on the east side of Milepost 5.0, Old Highway 395 from the San Luis Rey River bridge to the I-15 overcrossing south of West Lilac Road, Reche Road 200 feet west of Gird Road, Mission Road north of the I-15 overcrossing, and Mission Road at Fallen Leaf Lane, Via Zancas, and Red Mountain Lane.

The construction throughout the county is scheduled to begin in April and to be complete in August.
