A brief hail storm arrived in Fallbrook on December 30. Tom Chester captured this image.
FALLBROOK – When a funnel cloud spun through Fallbrook and Bonsall on Sunday, December 30, numerous residents ran for their cameras.
"Don't this beat all," said Tom Chester, in an email to the Village News.
The funnel was visible shortly after 1 p.m. and was rotating noticeably.
Shortly after the appearance of the cloud, rain began to fall, thunder and lightening could be heard and then it began to hail.
At the time, the National Weather Service said hail the size of peas could be expected, but in many residents' opinions, it was slightly larger than that.
Chester said he remembered another funnel cloud visiting Fallbrook in the past.
"We had a much stronger tornado/funnel cloud in almost the precise same location some years ago, that did touch down in Fallbrook and Temecula," he said. "I didn't get to see that one; I only observed that the wind and rain became horizontal - no exaggeration - looking out my window, and thought 'My, that's odd.'"
