Gunther-Mayr wed

Miss Maria Elizabeth Gunther and Steven John Mayr were joined in marriage November 6, 2004. The traditional Catholic ceremony and mass was presided over by Father Peter Kerwin OJM at the Mission San Luis Rey in Oceanside.

A formal evening reception was held at L’Auberge resort and spa in Del Mar. The ocean view terrace was the setting for the cocktail hour, where live classical guitar music was played for the guests followed by dinner and dancing in the Crosby Ballroom.

Miss Gunther is the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Charles Gunther of Fallbrook. Maria is a 1999 graduate of Fallbrook High School and a 2003 graduate of Cal Poly University San Luis Obispo. She is now working on a Masters degree in elementary education.

Mr. Mayr is the son of Mr. & Mrs. John Mayr of Escondido. Steven is a 1999 graduate of St. Augustine High School in San Diego. He is also a graduate of Cal Poly University in San Luis Obispo with a degree in engineering.

The bride was attired in a cathedral-length gown made of Italian satin trimmed in re-embroidered silver lace and pearls. A cathedral-length veil and blusher was held in place by a tiara made of crystals and pearls. The bride carried a bouquet of sterling silver roses and hydrangeas. She also carried her great grandmother’s handkerchief, trimmed in blue forget-me-nots, and wore a sapphire and diamond necklace with stones purchased in India, where her late grandfather was stationed in WWII.

Bridesmaids were Bridget Gunther, Candice Walls and Traci Morales, all of whom wore pale silver satin gowns with chapel-length trains.

Groomsmen for Mr. Mayr were Jesse Schulman, Tim Mayr and Ryan McCarter.

Readings for the mass were given by Michael Gunther, Christopher Gunther and Diane Main. Vocal selections were sung by Rebecca Ramirez.

The couple enjoyed a Hawaiian honeymoon on the island of Kauai and is now residing in San Luis Obispo.
