Hazardous materials incident cleared on Elder Street

FALLBROOK - North County Fire has reported that the hazardous materials incident in the 500 block of East Elder Street, that began at approximately 8 a.m. this morning, was resolved by 1 p.m.

The incident took place inside a medical/dental office located at 591 East Elder Street.

"A battery back-up system inside the office overheated and began producing a noxious gas," explained North County Fire public information officer John Buchanan.

All occupants of the office were evacuated and hazardous materials experts from the County of San Diego reported to the scene.

"The Haz Mat crew had everything resolved and cleaned up by 1 p.m.," said Buchanan. "No one was injured and now it's back to business as usual."

Haz Mat team on the way to Fallbrook

FALLBROOK - According to NCF public information officer John Buchanan, a San Diego County HazMat team is on its way to Fallbrook where a building in the 600 block of East Elder St. has been evacuated due to an unknown odor. Everyone is asked to stay away from the area for the time being.

An update will be posted when more information becomes available.
