An Oceanside man admitted to committing over 50 residential and commercial burglaries in the Fallbrook/Bonsall area when Fallbrook’s newest detective, Theresa Adams-Hydar, arrested him on the morning of January 7.
Angelo Doeing, 21, was arrested on over 19 counts, including: residential burglary, commercial burglary, grand theft, petty theft, possession of stolen property, fraudulent use of credit cards, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and conspiracy to commit burglary. He was arrested by Sheriff’s Detective Theresa Adams-Hydar, a 10-year veteran who joined the Fallbrook Substation on November 29, 2004.
“[Doeing] is the ‘hot prowler’ who has hit numerous homes here,” Adams-Hydar confirmed. “He told us that he selected Fallbrook and Bonsall for his crimes because they are secluded communities and residents here think they are safe, so they don’t lock their doors. He said all he had to do watch ‘watch and wait.’” A ‘hot prowler’ is identified as one who enters the home while the residents are in the house – awake or asleep.
“That is the scariest kind for people,” Adams-Hydar said. “He was spotted crawling through kitchens and more. He committed one crime after another in this community.”
Adams-Hydar said several residents and neighbors spotted Doeing coming or going from residences and were able to make positive identification when shown his photo. One homeowner in Bonsall chased Doeing from his residence and got the license plate number from his vehicle.
The detective also reported that Doeing was caught on video surveillance tapes using a stolen credit card and a stolen gift card.
After arresting Doeing, detectives conducted a search of his car and house and found wallets and other contents of purses.
Adams-Hydar said Doeing has a prior record of car and residential burglaries and just got out of custody in August of 2004.
“He is currently in jail awaiting his preliminary hearing,” she said. “These charges carry a mandatory prison sentence.”
