Lamborghini driver doing over 100 mph sustains major injuries when car hits median, is cut in half and catches on fire

The California Highway Patrol has reported that a driver of a Lamborghini, who was possibly driving under the influence, sustained major injuries last night when he was traveling at a speed of 100 miles per hour and struck the center median on Interstate 15, just north of Mission Road in Fallbrook.

"After colliding into the center median, the vehicle was cut in half and caught on fire," said Officer Jim Bettencourt of the CHP.

The accident took place Saturday evening, October 6 at approximately 11:19 p.m.

The driver, a 35-year-old man from San Marcos was driving a 2008 Lamborghini northbound on Interstate 15.

"He allowed his vehicle to travel from the slow lane into the center median," said Bettencourt.

"The driver sustained major injuries including burns to the face," said Bettencourt. "He was transported via air ambulance to UCSD hospital in San Diego."

Both the northbound and southbound lanes of Interstate 15 were shut down for 20 minutes due to the landing of the air ambulance.

Bettencourt said no other vehicles were involved in the collision.

The incident remains under investigation.
