Man arrested on five felony counts relating to firearms, marijuana after vehicle stop on South Mission Rd.

A 28-year-old Fallbrook man was arrested February 14 following a traffic stop made by law enforcement officers on South Mission Road.

Shawn Michael Barker, 28, of Fallbrook, was pulled over in the 1500 block of South Mission Road at approximately 4 p.m. and arrested by officers with the Sheriff’s Narcotics Task Force after they found loaded firearms and marijuana in his vehicle. Local deputies assisted at the scene.

“The vehicle stop was related to an investigation that the task force was working on and we were covering their detectives on the stop,” said Lt. Todd Richardson, commander of the Fallbrook Sheriff’s substation.

The initial charges levied against Barker reflect five felony counts:

*Carrying a concealed weapon in vehicle w/priors

*Possession of an assault weapon

*Possession/transport of a machine gun

*Possession of marijuana for sale

*Plant/etc. marijuana

Barker was transported to the Vista Jail by Sheriff’s deputies and is being held on $500,000 bail.

Traffic on South Mission was delayed for a short time as officers took Barker into custody.

This is sad…… Fallbrook residents we need to get together and do something about these people who are moving into our town and taking over. This used to be a good small town of good people. It’s sad to see what it’s become. I pray for Fallbrook residents to unite and change this. I love Fallbrook but hate what it’s become for my children to grow up in.

Oh My!!!! But, but, but…….isn’t there a BAN on machine guns? I thought our honorable politicians promised us that banning guns would stop crime. Maybe just haven’t banned enough….right. Maybe another gun ban law will keep dope addicts and drug runners from breaking the law. Just pass more laws banning guns, criminals will come running to turn in thier weapons and will vow to never steal, purchase on the black market, and use guns to commit crimes.
Ok Lucy, hold the football for Charlie again………

    @ Long Time Brook Resident,
You are right it is sad, but what is even sadder is We the People continue to vote to be soft on crime. This is not just happening in Fallbrook; it is happening everywhere.

I heard today that the new immigration reform proposal will allow even convicted criminals a path to citizenship. As if we didn’t have enough criminal citizens here already. If you think your government is looking out for your best interests, think again.

@Long Time Resident – there is a quarterly (I think) meeting of the Fallbrook Anti-Crime committee. Excellent source of information, usually key speaker is local (San Diego) experts on gang crime/activity. One of the past speakers was the district attorney. I agree, only by citizens pressuring the government can we change.

Reality Checker- fully agreed. The populace cannot be controlled by laws. Never has and never will be.

No violence committed – so Jerry Brown will have him on parole and back on the street by next week.

@mom of lots – come on- never controlled by laws? a FEW disobey, but almost all fof us are "controlled" – else it would be utter chaos. What is missing is enforcement. for example, punishment should be a detriment, kill some one and you get the death penalty. we now drag it so long that by the time it happens the crime is all but forgotten. The liberals have turned the system upside down, where the rights and the concerns are more with the convicted person. as "me" says above, they will be released or on parole, so no real price to pay

@grunt- I absolutely agree we need laws as a society to abide by. My point was that criminals don’t obey them and just because a new law is formed to "protect" the general population, does not mean all of a sudden criminals are going to be like, "Hey, I need to turn in my AR. They were just made illegal." That leaves the law abiding citizens more vulnerable.

@mom – ok, you are correct; I believe I misunderstood you, and I agree with you – "oh, I was going to shoot this place up, but I see it is a gun free zone, so I won;t". The best way to stop gun violence, the only real way, is with an armed and trained gun bearing citizenary

I can just hear the gun huggers and NRA : wait a minute…this is America …he’s got his 2Amend Rights…to keep and bear arms..

"WaterBoard" him…he’ll lead us to the KingPin managing this of the Area of Operations. But, taking him out, will only leave a void, for his "replacement."

This is America’s- AlQuieda-our INTERNAL Terrorism…drugs and machine guns.

Dont mock people for wanting to keep their constitutional rights to keep AND bear arms. If you have learned anything from history, as soon as guns are confiscated from the public, tyrrany and violence against the people soon follows. Learn from the Jews in Germany. As soon as mussolini got the guns, jews were being exterminated by the millions. They had no weapons to resist it.
Then there is the use of arms to protect your family and property. The government has no place telling the people what their needs are. For instance: you dont need a ten round magazine to shoot a deer, when hunting; or, you dont need a shotgun with a pistol grip attached for home defense. That one is particularly STUPID, as its only a cosmetic feature of the weapon. No law will ever keep a criminal from being a criminal. The only way to keep a criminal from being a criminal is to not have laws. So in effect, all you do with gun laws is make more criminals and disarm law abiding citizens seeking weapons for thier own protection. Gun control is not about GUNS. Its about CONTROL. We dont get our rights from government, government officials dont rule us. We are already free. If you dont care to protect your freedom, thats your choice. But, dont come crying about being oppressed or becoming a subject rather than a free person. You want to keep your freedom, keep your guns. Lose your guns, you will soon lose your freedom.

@grunt- we attended that monthly meeting once. My husband specifically went as he was an eye witness to a shooting that took place near our home in Fallbrook. He called 911, everything. No one came to interview or ask him questions. We read in the paper that "no shots were fired" WRONG. My husband contacted the Sheriff’s dept to say there were indeed shots fired and they responded that the investigation did not show shots were fired. Funny how an eye witness was not part of the investigation. So we went to the meeting and again my husband reported what he saw and again was told, "No, no shots were fired. You must have heard something else." Um, my husband knows what a gun sounds like lol. That was the first and last meeting we ever attended. Sitting around talking about crime with no action does nothing. Very disappointing.

Don’t worry Route 66: The man in this story is a CRIMINAL he will ALWAYS be able to get a gun. Ever hear of Prohibition? Criminals made millions off of that stupid law, they will make gazillions off of anti gun laws. The only people adversely affected will be those of us who are law abiding, Constitution believing Americans. Admittedly something needs to be done about gun violence but disarming honest citizens isn’t going to stop crime or violence. Anyone who thinks it will is a taco short of a combo plate.

@mom – I think you need to go to more – it is a good idea, the program, just needs more "real" people to begin to steer it where it needs to be. The lady that runs it is dedicated; but we need to do more than talk, she wanted to get a gang injuntion – she could use your voice and help in getting there. But thank you for the one time you did go – m0ore than most

Ya’ll are spouting and spewing your rhetoric and ideologies which are clearly UNBALANCED- BECAUSE-THEY ARE EITHER TOO FAR LEFT OR TOO FAR RIGHT.

Too many have changed the meaning spirit and intent of “…a well armed militia.,”and the greed of. CORorstion feeding your gun mania and psychoses…feeds. your mania and protects Your miscontsrued “rights,” by intimidating and corrupting our corruptable legislature thru deep pocketed gun mfgr/gun rights lobbyists.

LikIn the same way we can never truly stop an unbalanced fervent spiritually doctrinated group like Al Quieda, we can never stop our country’s INTERNAL TERRORISM- people who’s self-serving interests are placed afead of the good -of the many. Liqour Monetary greed cigarettes sexual avorices gun ownership free-speech religion- can all be, and are, twisted and distorted- as being an ..” inalienable right of the pursuit of happiness,” afforded by the constitution. Striking a balance-is good govt-“…of for and by the people…” -Honest Abe. Those are the good hallmarks founded in FAIRNESS, that have made democracy, what it is.
