Man attempts to abduct girl near high school

A man described as a Caucasian male in his 50’s or 60’s, with white hair, tried to abduct a 16-year old high school female athlete as she ran along Stage Coach Lane near the softball fields at Fallbrook High School on Wednesday, January 12.

The teen was doing the prescribed running for her sports team when the man, driving an older brownish/silver colored Mercedes Benz, pulled over to the side of the road, approached her on foot and told her to ‘get in the car.’ The girl immediately ran from the man, eluded him, and made it safely back to campus where she reported the incident immediately to school authorities.

“This girl did exactly the right thing,” Sgt. Cliff Johnson of the Fallbrook Sheriff’s Substation. “She was very smart about it.” The teen said she was jogging by herself because her running mate felt ill and was waiting for her to return to another part of the running route.

When Sheriff’s units responded to the call from high school administrators, the victim was able to give them a description of the man and his vehicle.

The Office of the Attorney General for the State of California reports that there are approximately 27 registered ‘high risk’ sex offenders living in the Fallbrook/Bonsall area (zip codes 92028 and 92003). “This is the Friendly Village, but we are not immune to these kinds of things,” Johnson said. “Of course, this could have been someone passing through the area too.”
