TEMECULA – Riverside County Coroner’s Office has identified the parolee as John Armes, 29, of Fallbrook.
On Monday, Feb. 11, at 12:35 p.m., officers from the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, Office of Correctional Safety, Fugitive Apprehension Team in conjunction with the Pacific Southwest Regional Fugitive Task Force were in the 40200 Block of Mimulus Way, Temecula. The officers were attempting an arrest of a parolee at large wanted for assault with a deadly weapon, stated Deputy Albert Martinez in a release.
The officers attempted to stop Armes who was an occupant of a taxi cab for hire. While the officers were making contact with Armes, the taxi driver exited the vehicle at which time Armes took control of the cab. He then collided with an unmarked law enforcement vehicle and then exited the taxi cab. At this time, an officer involved shooting occurred.
Armes was transported to Inland Valley Medical Center where he succumbed to injuries. The involved officer was transported to a local hospital and treated for a non-life-threatening injury.
Investigators from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department’s Central Homicide Unit responded to the scene. The officer’s name is being withheld at this time.

TEMECULA – A parolee wanted on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon was shot today in Temecula when law enforcement personnel tried to arrest him on a warrant, a Riverside County sheriff’s spokesman said.
The shooting was reported at 12:35 p.m. in the 40000 block of Mimulus Way. Officers from the California Department of Corrections and Pacific Southwest Regional Fugitive Task Force were trying to take the parolee into custody, ”and during the arrest an officer-involved shooting occurred,” Deputy Albert Martinez said.
The parolee — whose name was not immediately released — was transported to a local hospital, but Martinez didn’t know the man’s condition. He said the officer or officers involved in the shooting weren’t from the sheriff’s department.
No other injuries were reported.
