TEMECULA - A man claiming that he was in possession of a bomb robbed a Temecula bank today, fleeing with a wad of cash before sheriff's deputies could reach the location.

The robbery occurred around 11 a.m. at a Chase bank branch in the 29600 block of Rancho California Road, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

The lone suspect approached a teller window, slipped an employee a note saying he was armed with an explosive device and wanted money, said sheriff's Lt. Doug McGrew.

The teller complied with the demand, handing over an undisclosed amount of cash, at which point the robber walked out of the bank and drove away in a silver-colored Chrysler PT Cruiser, heading west on Rancho California toward Interstate 15, McGrew said.

No one was injured.

The bandit was described as about 25 years old, with a medium build and shaved head. He was wearing eyeglasses, a long-sleeved beige shirt and burgundy pants.

Anyone with information about the robbery was urged to call the sheriff's Temecula Station at (951) 696-3000.
