More than two tons of marijuana confiscated at San Onofre checkpoint

SAN ONOFRE – Agents staffing a U.S. Border Patrol freeway checkpoint near Camp Pendleton over the weekend caught a man hauling a stash of more than two tons of marijuana in a cargo vehicle, officials reported today.

The 38-year-old U.S. citizen, whose name was not released, arrived at the San Onofre-area Interstate 5 inspection facility in a 2012 Nissan van on Saturday morning, according to USBP public affairs.

After a service dog alerted officers to the presence of contraband in the vehicle, they searched it, finding 113 bundles of cannabis hidden in the cargo area. The illicit haul weighed 2,750 pounds and had an estimated street value of $1.65 million.

Members of a federal narcotics task force took custody of the suspect, the marijuana and the vehicle.

2750 lbs is a little under 1.5 tons. Thanks for the report and I’m glad this is off the streets.

Preston. Are you smoking some of it?

Just curious why you’d make the error you did.

Id bet that was the decoy load and the real load went through just fine while the officers were distracted. I bet five or ten semi trucks full of all kinds of hard drugs just passed right by within an hour of stopping the van.

@#5….Wow that is a sad thought. It’s all just over my head, why anyone wants to go through life stoned. Life is good, grass is green, sky’s are blue, children laugh….. and you’re missing it all if you’re stoned. Sad!

    "It was going to Washington?"

Very possibly. A Washington DC city council panel unanimously approved another measure in January 2014 moving closer towards decriminalization according to Reuters.

It’s a shame the American hunger for drugs is so great.

I’m sure that ton and a half (almost) is just a few minutes worth of supply for this country that’s demanding the product.

#6 fallbrook res. Lol your a clown. If anything smoking this natural flower makes things more enjoyable. You probably don’t are perfectly fine with people drinking their life away or cracking 1 open when enjoying the sky and the grass and your kids at a bbq yet drinking is far more worse. People use this medically and it’s proven it helps and makes ailments and illnesses and pain more manageable or helping in curing things. Do your homework and change your closed mind. I did. I learned what it can really do. Our government does’t want us to free our selves from pharmacy drugs or highly addictive drugs they make up depend on… You think they want you to be well, you think they want 2 cure for cancer…… Lol. That’s my rant of the night.

Now we are even on the verge of legalizing pot. And the insanity continues.
