Motorist killed in rollover crash identified

CORONA - Authorities today identified a motorist killed in a rollover wreck south of Corona and asked anyone with information about the crash to contact the California Highway Patrol.

Mario Carrillo, 29, of Hemet was fatally injured early Tuesday morning when his SUV careened off of Interstate 15, near Dos Lagos Drive, and plowed into a tree, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Carrillo was traveling northbound on the freeway when his 2002 Chevrolet Blazer drifted onto the right shoulder, where it dipped down an embankment, struck a dirt berm ''and became airborne,'' said CHP Officer Travis Monks.

''The Blazer collided with a tree and overturned, ending up on its roof,'' he told City News Service.

The SUV was discovered by a passing motorist in the 21700 block of Temescal Canyon Road, just below the freeway.

''The motorist flagged down Corona police officers, who contacted the CHP,'' Monks said.

Riverside County firefighters sent to the location shortly before 7 a.m. cut the victim out of the SUV. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

''We're not sure exactly what time this accident occurred or what the circumstances were,'' Monks said, and asked anyone with information to call the Riverside CHP office at (951) 637-8000.
