CAMP PENDLETON – Camp Pendleton artillery units will be conducting a live fire exercise with High Mobility Artillery Rockets (HIMARS) in the Whiskey and Zulu impact areas from Sunday, Aug. 3, to Monday, Aug. 4, from 6 a.m. to midnight, and on Tuesday, Aug. 5, from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Marines will also conduct an exercise that involves the detonation of Mine Clearing Line Charges (MCLIC) on Sunday, Aug. 2.
Mine Clearing Line Charges are 1,750 pounds of linked C-4 (Composition C) explosives used to create a breach in minefields under combat conditions.
In addition, Camp Pendleton units will conduct mortar fire training exercises Tuesday, Aug. 5, to Friday, Aug. 8.
Depending on atmospheric conditions, the sound of the explosions may be amplified and heard up to 50 miles away.
