North County Fire patients benefit from Firehouse Subs grant

FALLBROOK – On Dec. 4, North County Fire announced it had been awarded a grant worth $17,416 from Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation (affiliated with Firehouse Subs restaurant in Oceanside).

The funds presented to North County Fire were used to purchase ZOLL’s AutoPulse devices, which provides ongoing mechanical CPR while emergency workers are either treating, moving, and transporting patients.

When manual CPR is done and done well, authorities said it only provides about 10 to 20 percent of normal blood flow. However, AutoPulse is 90 percent as effective as one’s own heartbeat. The Life Band squeezes the entire chest, not just pushing on a single spot as is accomplished with manual CPR, thereby ensuring significantly improved blood flow.
