Proposed Fallbrook Dog Park is just a bark away

FALLBROOK – The grassroots movement for a Fallbrook dog park is gaining momentum. The effort, spearheaded by Fallbrook Dog Park Committee, has gained public support through a petition process. Committee members presented the proposal to members of the Fallbrook Community Planning Group and CSA81 (County Service Area for Fallbrook, which approves park and recreation amenities for the Fallbrook area), asking the groups to update their priority list to include the project. Both groups agreed to add it to their list.

Fallbrook is an unincorporated area, so the best solution would be to fold an off-leash dog area into the existing county parks operation. The Fallbrook Dog Park Committee has quietly been working with the Live Oak Park Coalition (LOPC) and the San Diego County Department of Parks and Recreation for the past several months. It was suggested that the southernmost section of Live Oak Park be set up for an off-leash dog area. This area is on the corner of Gird and Reche Roads, has a small parking lot, and a restroom. There are several tables, benches and many trees to shade the area.

Dog park supporters have been asked to raise $10,000 towards fencing costs and Live Oak Park Coalition (LOPC) has generously offered to match their donations up to $10,000 to assist with purchasing dog waste stations, waste bags, trash receptacles, signs, upgrades, and fencing.

So, now is the time to donate! Anyone who donates $50 to LOPC will receive a one-year parking pass to Live Oak Park where they can walk their dog on leash, have a picnic, and soon bring their pet to an off-leash dog area.

Tax deductible donations can be sent to: LOPC, note “dog park” in memo area, P.O. Box 2974, Fallbrook, CA 92088.

Donations can be made on line at Indiegogo.com, by entering Fallbrook Dog Park in the search box. A video about the proposed dog park can be viewed at fallbrookdogpark.weebly.com. To find out more about the Fallbrook off-leash dog area, email the Dog Park Committee at [email protected].

The committee has been working its way through the County regulations with the help of Jake Enriquez, the executive in charge of this project and District Manager County of San Diego Parks & Rec. Dept. Any questions regarding this proposed project should be directed to Enriquez at his office: (858) 966-1365, or by email at

[email protected].

The community’s support and donations are needed and will be greatly appreciated. The committee hope to have the off-leash dog park become a reality by spring of 2014!
