Second bald eagle count of the winter doesn't disappoint volunteers, biologists

LAKE HEMET - Frosty weather did nothing to deter a pair of adult bald eagles from adding to their nest today in Lake Hemet or being seen at Lake Perris, according to local federal and state biologists and volunteers.

Twelve of the bald eagles, nine adult and three juvenile, were observed Saturday during the hour-long second bald eagle count of the winter.

At Lake Perris, one adult and one juvenile bald eagle, were seen. Juvenile bald eagles have a brown head and tail while the adult bald eagle is distinguished by a famous white head and tail, according to John Miller.

The remaining bald eagle counts are scheduled for February 9 and March 9, Miller said.
